Strasbourg attack: Tajani (EU Parliament) to SIR news agency, “we respond to the violence of terror with the power of freedom and democracy”

(from our correspondent) “We respond to the violence of terror with the power of freedom and democracy. For this reason, I have decided not to suspend the sitting of Parliament”, which is holding its plenary session in Strasbourg this week. The President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, said this in an interview with SIR news agency as the first reports of the attack on the Christmas markets in the city centre – not far from the headquarters of the European Parliament – reached the Plenary, with the gunman still at large.

“We worked until midnight” in plenary, Tajani added. “We must not change our rules, we must not change our lifestyle just because some criminals want to intimidate us. We are not afraid of them”. The president added: “We shall respond with the power of justice, with the power of police, with greater cooperation between intelligence services at European level. That is why it is crucial to have a European FBI. But we are sure that, in the end, we will prevail. We have defeated Daesh in the field, we will also defeat its militants around the world”.
